One site came to an end

ringtv.com. One of those favorite sites I always visit every morning before I start to work. And now it came to an end.

the ringtv.com is not allowed anymore while your nba.com is? This is BS. Oh come on infra people. I know you like basketball that much. Who doesnt anyway. And I know you dont like boxing that much. I do anyway. But what's your point exactly in blocking such site? Come on, almost everybody here is doing nba.com. And what difference does it make when I do ringtv.com?.

Next time you try to block such site, make sure you know what's there. ringtv.com, whooops, maybe you thought it has a tv on it huh? Its a f**** blog!

Post Office, the Filipino way

I have a very important package sent to me from australia last february 26. I only got it yesterday March 30. But....

I was the one who have to go there at the Post office (Makati) to follow up for the second time why I haven't receive any notice yet for me to pick-up my parcel. I asked the woman assigned at the parcel section and she told me that the maximum time I have to wait is 2-3 weeks. And a month has passed without any notice.

March 27.. I went to the post office and did some follow up on it. They gave this rather heavy book. Filipino Government Style. All logs and information are never computerized. So I have to manually browse this old logs of parcels and mails the Makati Post Office have received so far. But my name was not there. I was disappointed. This is a very important parcel for me.

March 30.. I came back at the post office and did some follow up on it again. They gave this rather heavy book again. Browse browse browse browse. You can hardly decipher anyting on it. But still my name's not there. To my surprise the lady gave me another book. I dont even know what's the difference between this one and the other one. She just told me to try it...browse browse browse....logs from March 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19..wait....wait..is that my name?! March 19! ....after i found it she explained to me the difference between the two.

The lady: O naipadala na pala notice sa address nyo sir. Wala ka pa natanggap?

Me: wala pa (nyak,,gagawin ko ba tong paghahanap sa milyong milyong book pages nyo kung natanggap ko na)

The lady: Try mo puntahan sa second floor yung kartero mo...

Me: (aba may kartero na pala ako)...kartero ko?

The lady: The one assigned to your address.

Me: (aba iningles ako, sige ba)....ahh okay, give me someting to show there para mapadali.

so I went up up upstairs =D..And waited for my mailman. 1 hour wala pa..woooooooops 2 hours..there you are!..give it to me give it to me. The moment this postman came, all other postman gazed at me, in a unison, pointing their lips (yes the nguso), or their finger to this very big postman. He just needed my address and name. After a "moment" of digging inside..as in literally deep inside..he handed to me my precious notice, with a big sigh of relief, went back to the parcel section

The lady: Nakuha mo na?

Me: yes

The lady: Nasa kanya pa?

after a very short transaction..maybe 10 minutes

The lady: Ano name ng postman mo?

Me: (ahh, un naman pala tatanong din)..Mr. Salano..nakaasign sa Barangay *****

The lady: Ahhhhhh si Cesar...hayyyz si Cesar talaga..(with a very big smile..ahaha)

Me: (what?)

and finally leaving this antique post office, hugging my precious parcel*.

*inside the parcel is my boo's anniversary gift to me =)

A year ago, Today

Today is the day. An amazing day. A wonderful day. A sweet meaningful day for me and my boo. On this day one year ago, we made the most perfect and reasonable decision of our lives. I dont know if you can even call it a decision. An unconscious decision met with no doubts. A deci
sion that put a stamp on our destiny together. A committment made guided by love.

And for my boo. Thank you for everything, for letting us reach this far.

i want you to know that...

You're even more
dearer to me now
than ever before.
And it doesnt stop here.
I love you more today
it's deeper
richer
more mature
and the best is yet to come
as we continue
in another year
for a fight
for our lifetime
together.

Happy anniversary boo.
I love you so much!

Some things I wish I already knew in college

If i had known these things during my thesis it would had been easier, less stressful.

1. Subversion (http://subversion.tigris.org/)- this is a source code revision control system. I remembered when we were doing our thesis we experienced the pain of creating multiple backups/copies of codes to multiple flash drives/disks. Plus with subversion, all team members can synchronize their codes without conflict to other codes. Just checkout the files you need to edit and commit it to the subversion server (also known as the repository). And come early morning the next day, check the repository if one files or more has changed and you'll see what and when and who changed it.

2. UML - I learned this in college. Only the basics. I wish I realized at that time how important this tool is. I wish I had a betetr instructor for this. That's why on our thesis we have to rely with the ubiquitous democratic complicated flow charts. A few days ago I was visiting all the paperworks from our thesis. I cant stop saying "This is not so right!", "this should be like this, and not like that."

3. Need for specialty - I admit my thirst for knowledge during college. I'm a beast for all things that can be learn. I was thinking that I was so behind and I need to learn everything. And now of all the languages I learned only one has been so relavant to me. Our college never offered specialization at least for final. year. Learn the basics but master only one language. If you're serious with your programming career then sooner or later you'll target a language certification and you'll wish you had the focus for one and only one language back then.

4. Deep grasp of OOP (object oriented programming) - because everything in my job is OOP. It's only now that object orientation 's starting to become inherent to my thinking.

to be continued.... (maybe..coz i rather be spending time with my boo than rant about these things.)

What i need in firefox

Firefox is possibly the best browser around. I can only say so much about it. But admit it. It is. But i dont use it at home. There are lots of small (really small) features that it doesnt have.

what I need:

1. I need firefox to let me drag the tab out of its window and put it in a new window (chrome has it)

2. Saw this on Reddit. I need firefox to have a mute button i can click on. I usually open 5-10 youtube tabs at a time and i dont want to visit each one just to press the "pause" button.

3. I need a lighter interface. It just looks heavy compared with Opera and Chrome. My body feels heavy everytime i use it. I dont know but it really looks thick.

4. I need firefox to end its process immediately when i close it.

5. And i need it to have an "open with" option in its context menu so i have a choice to open a page in whatever browser i want.

6. And probably i need to stop using firefox.

Programmers should not test

I hate testing. Where I am working now. I really hate it. You'll be assigned to a project and without any hesitation you go to your keyboard and do all sorts of hacks and workarounds for a specific program to work as described in what we call the "programmer's dreaded bible" where all sorts of restrictions and guides are holy scripted. You have no choice but to follow. What's good about it is you dont need to think much. Just follow the rules.Do a particular comparison in a manner described. For a long time I have no complaints in this setup. But when you start asking me to do testing. Functional testing. Test Planning. Test Scripting. Say those words to me and i started losing faith to humanity.

Programmers do the program. Programmers do the testing? No no no. I say no. That's why we have Quality Assurance Engineers, we have testers. What are they doing. Oh yeah I know. Cost Cutting while people who are supposed to do these jobs are nowhere to be found.

So what's next. Maybe tomorrow they'll be asking us to do customer supports too.

Never be apart

Out of many twists of our lives
and all the chances we met
it seems that we were given the most special moment...
to get to know each other..
and to set everything for what we've been waiting for..
a special moment of being together.

You must know boo that when I am with you,
I know that i am with someone who makes me so complete
than every single person could ever dreamed of.
I turn to you for everything,
for trust,,and you give it.
for inspiration, for that motivation, the drive to live,

the encouragement, for answers.

and you never let me down..
you always lift me up..
taking my thoughts where all troubles are so much far
and the joy seems to be here forever

We promise to stay forever like the happiness we feel

like neverending..
You are my soulmate...
And i want you to know that everything is reassured
by you and us being together..

I need you for all my tomorrows.
All smiles depend on you..
so thankful that you are here for me forever...

I love you so much boo...

We'll never be apart.

Happy 11th monthsary!

Corporate Programming

It's Monday. I wasn't so excited to login and read our project's issues log since I finalized the last project I was assigned to last week. Not that I'm not confident for all the workarounds I managed to pull for this project. There are times when everything seems to work fine only to find out that this and that is not an acceptable solution.

Corporate programming is not about pulling your own creative solution to a problem. Its about pulling your own ideas, put it in a paper above the corporate standard, and cut everything from your own idea that doesnt fit the standard.

And that's exactly what i'm about to do now , after this cup of coffee (from my boo =).
